Art Transcending Words
Polluted Water Popsicles. Hung I-chen, Guo Yi-hui, and Cheng Yu-ti (2017, Sculpture Installation)
The installation Polluted Ice Popsicles by students Hung I-chen, Guo Yi-hui, and Cheng Yu-ti, is a set of sculptures showing the pollution of Taiwan’s water. The 3 students gathered samples of polluted water they found from around Taiwan, and preserved the water within polyester resin, in the shape of popsicles. Even without knowing the context of the water from around the country, viewers can see the pollution in the water clearly. Plastic chunks embedded in the popsicles, unnaturally purple water, and even cigarette butts. Art can convey a message, a story, and even emotions, without needing any words. Art can make the climate crisis easier to understand, regardless of your background, education, or class.
