Biography:

Madame de Staël, from her full name Anne Louise Germaine Necker was born on April 22nd, 1766, in Paris and passed away on July 14th, 1817. She was French Swiss writer on political thought and European culture. She was known for her novels and especially her essays

She was the daughter of 2 Swiss citizens. Her father later became the financial assistant of the King Louis the XVI and as a child she became familiar with literary circles and literary discussion that her mother organized. She was married at 16 to the Swedish Baron Erik de Staël- Holstein but it ended in a separation 11 years and 3 children later. She fled Paris after the Revolution to come back in 1794, to continue her literary social life.

She is very known for her strong political thoughts and political theories, on freedom especially. For this she got banished from Paris under Napoleon’s Empire, for supporting the monarchy and trying to form a liberal resistance..
