Mapping Eco-Blocks in Seattle
Lilly Bayly and Charlie Martin, Information School
This presentation will cover the GIS tools we used in the creation of our capstone project. We will begin by explaining the issue of eco-blocks in Seattle, and that there is no publicly available data on how many there are and where. To investigate this problem, we decided to collect data and map eco-blocks in the Seattle neighborhood of Georgetown. To do this we created a survey in ArcGIS Survey123, which allowed us to collect location information along with the number of blocks. Following a sector map that we created, we collected data on the presence of blocks on every street in Georgetown across three data collection days. We then uploaded this data into Google MyMaps, which allowed us to display photographs alongside the datapoints, and also to upload other data we had into other layers.
