The Power of Unity

Prototype for proposed freeway cover. Albina Vision Trust (2023, 3D Render)

The Albina Vision Trust is a project, founded by black locals in the Albina neighborhood in Portland Oregon. The Albina neighborhood was a predominantly black area in downtown Portland, which was destroyed by industrialism and harmful infrastructure. This project aims to revitalize the area, which once belonged to black families who were displaced. Having a community of black citizens who are directly affected, coming together to bring change is a perfect example of peerocracy, where marginalized communities, which previously had no power or say in the decisions which affected them the most, now had the power to participate in making a change to improve their wellbeing. Through community efforts, they have raised $800,000 to reshape the land. As a community, people have more power to bring change together.
