Things I Lost While Moving
Emma Kinzley
A Ziploc bag of mechanical pencils
2 rechargeable AAA batteries
A stainless steel LinQuest water bottle
Left somewhere at Stansted Airport
My best friend from high school
Disappearing into the Insta-ether
My sense of peace in Seattle
Now so empty next to London
A scuffed black minifridge
And a fluffy white husband pillow
I couldn’t fit in my Mom’s old Lexus
An outdated version of myself
That now seems irrelevant
My black leather backpack
That broke on the Seoul subway
The way you used to look at me
A white cotton Muji sock, left foot
A brother who’s shorter than me
An old tube of soybean eye cream
A good night’s sleep
I'm an English major at the UW, and I've moved around a lot, and no matter how meticulously I pack, something always gets left behind, so I decided to write a poem about it.
