The poster presents various activities to illustrate how online learning can motivate self-led learning. Included here are pedagogical strategies such as collaborative writing, e-Portfolio and weekly cultural presentation assignments that encourage meta-cognitive language learning. These methods certainly enhance the basic language skills but students are able to embrace the culture of the language at the same time. Proficiency in a language then becomes more than simply a communicative tool but an in-depth bearing of social and cultural understanding.
Empowering learning experiences for intermediate language learners in online classrooms reduced the limitations of online learning and maximized the learning opportunities to the changed learning platform. The evidence-based teaching strategies facilitate a sustainable and active learning experience for language learners but these methods are not exclusive to online language classes. We wish to promote innovative online teaching practices for higher education to better accommodate the current transitioning to hybrid learning classrooms.

Abstract:
Online teaching and learning have ineffably become more important since the last year’s break out of the pandemic. With language classes meeting synchronously every day at UW, instructors had to come up with measures that would keep students’ learning outcomes at the level of off-line classrooms. Based on the class activities collected from 2nd year and 3rd year Korean students, this poster shows various pedagogical methods that created active learning experience in online language classes for intermediate language learners. By implementing these pedagogical methods, some even proved to be more effective online. The poster presents various activities to illustrate how online learning can motivate self-led learning.
