Fuji from Gotenyama at Shinagawa on the Tōkaidō

As similarly in other prints in the series"Thirty-six views", Hokusai used weather and light as tools to explore the relationship between humans and natureFuji from Gotenyama at Shinagawa on the Tōkaidō, a color woodblock print, by Katsushika Hokusai( 1830-1832). In this composition, Hokusai used the horizontal frame to depict a view of Mount Fuji is made from across Sagami Bay. The Fuji Mount is in the background, but it is not the focus of the picture at all. Instead, the trunks of cherry trees in the hills in the foreground are the focal point. The clear blue of the sky and the light pink of the cherry blossom present the scene Spring and draw eye-catching. A small group of travelers is seeing the cherry blossom while others are eating and drinking.
