Full description

This image displays colors of blue, gray, brown, and black. The print features a woman who is wearing her kimono with the knot in the front to make it easier for men to untie. This conveys to the viewer that she is a cortisone, working in the pleasure district. The cortisone has many layers of luxurious patterns, reflecting her status not only in society but also within the pleasure district. The more luxurious the kimonos are that the cortisone is wearing, the higher they are ranked within the pleasure district. The kimonos are gifted to the cortisones by wealthy men who have played for their services. This cortisone in the print is wearing a kimono within her many layers that displays many motifs. These motifs include waves, the moon, lightning, and most importantly, a dragon. Ashley Brascher Image from the Rijksstudio collection
