Full description

This is the thirty-second piece from Hiroshige's "Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido". While containing what many would consider the typical ukiyo-e style clouds, what makes this piece particularly interesting, is the use of color and lines that he utilizes to draw the eye of the viewer. At the viewers first glance, the moon does not seem to come into focus. As the viewers eye darts from the bright yellow boat accented by the blue water, to the bright yellow structures on the left side of the horizon line in this scene, the swaying of the trees that divide the two, draw a line that pulls the attention to the long forgotten moon.
