Hokusai Manga, volume 3: non-existent creature

Full description
The non-existent creature expresses the way Hokusai sees his painting interest. First of all, in this painting individuals are overlapped, which indicates that he’s using the form of sketches, which was impossible to publish in the past. Additionally, the detailed texture of skin, motion, poses come from different existent creatures, such as horse, rhino… The careful and delicate detail indicate Hokusai’s observation on not just animals, but also human figure and landscape… Additionally, some of eastern factors also come in, for example on the right bottom, there’s a creature called kappa, existing in Japanese mythology. Kappa with bird’s beak, frog’s limbs, monkey’s body and turtle’s shell.
