Shiraito Waterfall at Hakone (ca. 1936)

Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), Shiraito Waterfall at Hakone (ca. 1936) Matted painting; ink and color on silk (Ukiyo-e), 13 15/16 x 21 7/16 in. (35.4 x 54.5 cm), Gift of Francis Lathrop, 1908, Image courtesy of the MET Museum
Full description
Here in this Ink on Silk, much like in the Hodogaya (Shinkame Bridge) print, you again see the less sophisticated use of perspective. Although wonderfully composed and done in the more formal Shogunal style like the Tendro Hiroshiges, you can see his early use of perspective following that layered rectilinear use of diminishing the subject into the vanishing point.
