Full description

This 2.1 cm sized Intaglio, an engravement into sard, depicts one of Athena's most famous myths, that of Cassandra as kneels at the altar of Athena just prior to horrific events of her assault. This Intaglio was made by an unknown creator in the Greece Euboea Chalkis approximately in the year 300 B.C. during the Hellenistic Period. The Intaglio's reference to myth of Cassandra references one of the periods in which Athena proved to be the fearsome goddess of war, decimating many Greek soldiers for the crime of desecrating her altar.
