Apollo
Full description
The wall art shows major milestones of the Olympian god, Apollo. He is the god of sun, music and poetry, healing and plagues, prophecy and knowledge, order and beauty, archery and agriculture. The art on top shows Pompei, House of the Vettii, Red Oecus and the bottom, Apollo victorious over Python as well as Apollo playing the lyre. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto and he was born near the olive branch on the island of Delos. Hera was Zeus' wife and did not accept this affair. As revenge Hera sent Python to prevent the birth of the twins Apollo and Artemis. Shortly after his birth Apollo, he went straight to Parnassus to kill Python with his bow and arrow. After having killed Python he was so happy he played his lyre for everyone to enjoy. He represents harmony with both physical superiority and moral virtues shown in many arts. From this battle rose the Pythian games in which both musical and athletic contests were held every four years in Apollo's honor.
