The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice has inspired countless works of art. As fitting for the myth of Orpheus, the talented musician, his legacy is found in music.
A French composer named Jacques Offenbach composed music for a comic operetta satirizing the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus in 1858. The overture and final scene of the operetta feature Can-can, a traditional French music where women lift their skirts, kick their legs high, and dance.
Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra made up of Slovenian youth, performed a famous parodical overture by French composer Jacques Offenbach, Orpheus in the Underworld Overture. In this performance, the can-can section starts from 7:00.
