A Golden Thread

Resource added
The painting displays three women clothed in black heavy fabric. The woman on the left is Lachesis, the middle sister. She is examining a golden thread that is being wrapped around a spindle. Her hands are far apart as she measures the thread, deciding the length of the life. At her feet are spindles fully wrapped with golden thread and no longer being wound. In the middle, sitting farther back is Atropos, the eldest sister. She is examining the thread as it is being created with concentration, as she decides the manner of death by cutting the thread. To the right is Clotho, the youngest sister. Above her shoulder is a bundle of golden fibers that she spins into the golden thread. All three sisters are sitting on stones and are surrounded by rock, though they are in no identifiable place. In between Atropos and Clotho, in the distance, there is a break in the stone and a palm tree, beach, and shining sea can be seen.
Painted in 1885
