This is “Ruthlessness”, the fourth song of the Ocean Saga and Poseidon’s main appearance in EPIC where he confronts Odysseus for blinding Polyphemus, his cyclops son. In writing the musical, Jorge has expressed that each character is represented by certain musical instruments of motifs. Poseidon’s main representation throughout the musical but primarily in this song, is the brass section, particularly the trumpet. These instruments are also used to demonstrate when a character is acting ruthless, harkening back to this moment.

Full description

"EPIC: The Musical'' is a musical adaptation of Homer's 'The Odyssey', written by Jorge Rivera-Herran. While Jorge does take creative liberties throughout this retelling, it still follows the journey of Odysseus and his crew as they endeavor to return home to the island of Ithaca. This is an on-going production with the story being split into relevant sagas and released steadily over the last two years. As such, half of the plot remains to be revealed at the time of this entry. However, just like in the original ‘Odyssey’, Poseidon’s relevance is immediately clear and quite deadly. He serves as the looming threat over Odysseus’s shoulder as they travel across the seas, encountering creatures such as sirens and Scylla, all in an attempt to avoid another encounter with the vengeful God after the destruction of most of Odysseus’s fleet at his hands. While only currently present in two songs in the musical, his impact on the narrative is undeniable. In this adaptation, he is depicted as ruthless and petty, holding onto a grudge against a mortal man. God of storms indeed, he is a primary antagonist in EPIC.
