Medusa with the Head of Perseus

Medusa holding the head of Perseus, a reversal of the classic myth
Full description
This statue depicts Perseus, a legendary Greek hero, dead at the hands of Medusa. Originally carved by Luciano Garbati, the piece shows Medusa moments after victory over Perseus. In this modern reversal, the artist seeks to challenge the traditional narrative by portraying Medusa holding the severed head of Perseus to show the woman behind the gorgon. She seems, not to be holding the sword and head in triumph, but in a sort of quiet revenge. During her story medusa faces great injustice that this piece challenges.
