The Abduction of Psyche

Resource added
Eros has his arms around Psyche as he flies and leads them both up into the sky to his palace. Contrary to the painting's name, Psyche looks at peace in his arms, shown smiling amorously with her eyes closed. A piece of purple cloth is wrapped around the two lovers as if Eros has just whisked Psyche out of her bed.

Full description

"The Abduction of Psyche" is an 1895 oil painting made by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The art piece depicts Psyche, goddess of the soul, being carried off by Cupid—alternatively known as Eros, god of love—to his palace. The two lover's story comes from the "Metamorphoses" by Ovid. Aphrodite, the mother of Eros, demands her son to prick the beautiful Psyche with one of his arrows to make her fall in love with a horrendous monster. However, Eros becomes enraptured by Psyche and decides not to follow through with his mother's wishes, choosing to marry Psyche instead.
