Full description

The Goddess of Spring is a 9-minute short film that was released in 1934 as one of Disney’s Silly Symphony animated shorts. The film starts with introducing Persephone as the Goddess of Spring. She helps the animal and plant life flourish around her and they all seem to be living happily. However, the film then takes a dark turn once Pluto appears and abducts Persephone, taking her to the Underworld. This causes the animals to panic and the trees to lose their leaves and vitality, which is resemblant of the Winter season. Unable to appease her in the Underworld, Pluto allows her to return back to the living world under the promise that she will return in the future. The Disney film ends with Persephone rising to the living world, causing Winter to end and life to flourish once again.
