Full description

Statues of each of the 9 Muses line the edge of the colonnade of the Palace's terrace. The Palace was built by the Empress of Austria, Elisabeth, in 1890 as a retreat on the island of Corfu, Greece. The statues are thought to have been completed by neoclassical sculptors Canova and Thorvaldsen and their pupils. Each of the statues holds an identifying item with which each Muse is traditionally identified with.
