Full description

This Baroque painting depicts Dionysus (or his Roman name, Bacchus) as a youthful character draped in sheets and surrounded and covered in leaves and fruit. His face is flushed and well-groomed, suggesting someone who is not accustomed to a difficult life. The glass of wine appears to be offered to the audience as though the god wants someone to join him, with a slightly mischievous look on his face. This painting was commissioned by Cardinal Del Monte in around 1596 and currently resides in Florence, Italy.
