Full description

This painting of Ares is a Roman representation of the Greek God of War. Mars (Ares), in the painting, is posing with the often paired Cupid flying behind him. The Romans’ Cupid was the equivalent of the Greek god Eros, the origin of the word “erotic.” In ancient Greece, Eros is often seen as the son of Ares. The bright colors and contrasting schemes are a part of the Baroque art form.
