Olympic series, sailing is a painting created by Hans Erni in Switzerland, 1983. Erni was commissioned by the International Olympic Committee to draw a series of 31 canvases depicting the Olympic sports. He liked to include the gods in his paintings to give them an air of being sacred. This painting includes the god Poseidon looking over sailors with the wind god Aeolus present as well. It depicts Poseidon with a fish tail to indicate his role as the God of the Sea and the calming shades of blue and green prominently present on the painting display his involvement with the calming seas sailors and fisherman travel on.
