Name: The myth of Cupid and Psyche

Description: The myth is about the love story between Psyche and Cupid facing hardships within their unattainable love for each other. Psyche was born as a mortal woman, but had beauty comparable to the goddess of love, Venus. Her father terribly abandoned her after he sought out advice from Apollo the god of light, sun, and prophecy. She continued to deal with adversity through human lovers being too afraid to approach her beautiful self. This was when Cupid began to slowly fit his way into the picture. Cupid the son of Venus, was tasked by her to embarrass Psyche by pricking her with his love arrows. Even the goddess of beauty and love was jealous of Psyche. However, this plan fell through when Cupid used the arrow himself and fell in love with her. Cupid hid his identity and presumed the role of being Psyche’s husband/lover, but soon curiosity got the best of Psyche and she found out his identity of being the god of Love. From finding this out, there was trouble between the two of them and Cupid considered that gods and humans couldn’t love as equals. In spite of Cupid running off, Psyche was set on finding him through all of the tribulations Venus had put out for her. Cupid eventually returned to his bride after he found her sleeping, and reconsidered the impossibility of humans and gods loving each other. Psyche was given ambrosia, the nectar of gods, and became an immortal being. The two of them continued their relationship and birthed their child Pleasure.
