Full description

Polyhymnia, one of the nine Muses in Greek mythology, is the goddess of sacred hymns and poetry, drawing inspiration from the divine. She is often depicted in a contemplative pose, draped in a flowing robe, expressing deep thought and solemnity. Her influence extends to religious chants, philosophical musings, and rhetoric. Ancient Greek poets and scholars invoked her guidance when creating intellectual and spiritual works. Polyhymnia’s legacy persists in modern culture, symbolizing the sacred connection between art and wisdom. The Roman marble statue, from the second century AD, is a copy of a Hellenistic original from around 100–50 BC. It displays Polyhymnia in a contemplative and serious pose, with her cloak draped over her left shoulder, expressing her association with dance and sacred poetry.
