Unnamed Drawing of A Sacrifice For Demeter

Resource added
Several women and children stand in a forest in front of a statue of Demeter. They play instruments, dance, and leave food in front of the statue. The statue has a tall pillar base, with Demeter sitting on the back of a lion, holding some kind of plant. There are sprawling hills in the background with more figures. It is drawn in a dark pen and shaded with brown paint.

Full description

The drawing uses pen, graphite, black ink, and a brown wash on paper. It uses styles and techniques with both British and Swiss influence. It was drawn between 1766 and 1781.
