Unnamed Drawing Of Demeter in A Field

Resource added
A drawing of Demeter kneeling in a field and using a sickle to harvest a stalky crop. Her hair is tied back, and she pulls the crop towards her as she cuts with the other hand. Behind her there are more rows of crops with clouds gathering in the sky. The grey-brown paper it is on is cut unevenly into an oval. Demeter is sketched with a dark brown pen, with red shading.

Full description

The drawing uses a pen, red chalk, and a grey-brown wash on paper. The style and technique are similar to that of the Bolognese School, a prevalent classical art school in Bologna in the late 1600s to 1700s. This drawing was formally attributed to another artist, Domenico Maria Canuti. Similarities between this drawing and others of Rolli's lead people to believe it was actually a drawing of his and not Canuti. It was drawn between 1645 and 1725.
