Full description

Landscape with the Fall of Icarus is a Renaissance painting created by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Created around 1558, the artwork depicts a moment from Greek mythology when Icarus falls into the sea after flying too close to the sun. Interestingly, the artwork doesn’t focus on Icarus but on the ordinary people who continued to work whilst a tragedy was unfolding. This piece ties together multiple themes of human ambition, failure, and indifference to individual suffering, as depicted by ordinary people.
