Full description
The Death of Actaeon was painted in oil on canvas by Italian Renaissance painter Titian. The painting portrayed the story in Ovid's Metamorphoses, in which the hunter Actaeon accidently saw goddess Diana's nudity while she was bathing in the woods. In her outrage the goddess punished Actaeon by turning him into a stag. The story ended tragically with Actaeon being hunted down and eventually killed by his hounds. (179 x 189 cm)
