Consumerism

The second category in the gallery is Consumerism and it is about the consumption rate of the individual and the need to bring attention to it. People can adjust their lifestyles to be more environmentally friendly. However, there are often unrealistic expectations or suggestions that would separate us from our society. There is a challenge between balancing living green and being members of a consumerist-centered society that constantly pushes cycles of buying new and discarding old, used items.

In this search for approachable solutions, there is hope in teachings from indigenous people. Ideas based on the knowledge of permaculture from Native Americans are often looked at in pursuit of an approachable solution to climate change. It is important to be aware of consuming habits and recognize the degree of resources that we expend in our daily lives. This awareness opens the door for us to be conscious of the waste we create.
