Publicity

One of the gallery’s current categories is publicity. Publicity can be defined as notice or attention given to something or someone through the sharing of information with social media, the internet, and a plethora of other resources. However, it can get as complex as what information is given the spotlight and what information is deliberately silenced on a larger scale.

For our project, we chose to have publicity refer to how the public perceives climate change and how art can influence it. When there are so many voices present within such a complex topic as climate change, publicity plays a large role - and the different ways people speak out on it are important. What voices are getting highlighted? Which ones are getting pushed to the side? In trying to find a solution to a pressing issue such as the climate crisis, publicity is a necessary component.
