Making It: Creating a More Welcoming Library Space while on a Tight Budget
Full description
Student access to a welcoming library environment has been shown to reduce anxiety and increase confidence. Plough Library’s 2024 student survey uncovered ways to improve our spaces on a very tight budget. Staff have relied on donations, a few small supply purchases, and help from other departments to make positive changes. We have focused on facilitating social interaction and engagement. Students use our spaces to study, chat, play games, hold meetings, or rest between classes. Librarians remain visible throughout the building. We also encourage students to take ownership of their library through contests to name rooms or new plants.
