Why Is Alt Text a Key Concept for Accessibility?

“Alt Text” is descriptive text that you embed in an image so that a screen reader like VoiceOver, NVDA, or JAWS will recognize and read for low vision or Blind readers.

How Do I Include Alt Text in a Manifold Project?

When making a Manifold project, you will probably be starting off with Microsoft Word documents and Google Docs, so you will embed your alt text in Word or Google Docs before you bring those texts into Manifold.

In both Word and Google Docs, if you’ve dragged and dropped an image into a document, you right click that image, and you should see an option to add alt text.

In Word, after right clicking on an image and selecting View Alt Text, you’ll have the option to add alt text:

In a Google Doc, after right clicking and selecting Alt text, you’ll get a pop up window in which you can enter it:

Once you’ve added alt text to your Word documents and Google Docs, you can bring those documents into Manifold via the Texts tab in your Admin interface. The alt text will carry over.
