Waiting by Zeiva Fernandez
Waiting by Zeiva Fernandez (Fig 8) is a piece exploring the fear and uncertainty of breaking out of a comfort zone when expanding outward from an established structure to nature. Fernandez intersects her discourse of urban nature with a feminist approach, disclosing a vulnerability sentiment with the broad context of individual and establishment. A piece of lightweight, transparent fabric hanging from tree branches, from streaks of light coming through from behind viewers can see repetitive black ink printed words explaining Fernandez’s intention of creating this piece. “To move” or “ To wait,” reflect the turbulent hesitation the artist experiences in her head as she moves from place to place, thoughts after thoughts. The weight of the wind is carried to her viewers as they stand down below, hearing the fallen leaves and feeling the nightly air breezing through their skin.
