Walking by Rosaline Dou (Fig 9) stems from a contemplation of how humans experience the world, noting the overprotection of our feet. In this single-channel video projection, Dou documents her journey as she explores various materials barefoot, akin to the way animals interact with the ground. The sequence of video clips is arranged according to Dou’s perception of their harshness. As the video progresses, it reveals a transition from natural, softer materials like sand, grass, and rocks, to more industrial and man-made materials such as steel, plastics, and wood chips. This progression not only reflects a physical journey but also a metaphorical exploration of our relationship with the environment.
