Building Bridges Between Community and the Philippine Collections at the Burke Museum
The Barangay is a space for the public to learn about the projects regarding the Philippine collections at the Burke Museum.
With over 4,200 cultural belongings and archival materials pertaining to the Philippines at the Burke Museum, knowledge of these holdings have been virtually unknown until the past decade. Projects centered around facilitating access to the Philippine collections have continued through engaging with the Indigenous Philippine and Filipino American community.
The Barangay centers these community voices, rather than the cultural belongings and archives themselves, understanding these holdings as gateways to memory, storytelling, and connection.
