Activity Preview: Fact-Checking
At MisinfoDay, we use the SIFT fact-checking method created by Mike Caulfield, which includes the skill of lateral reading, a term coined by the Stanford History Education Group.
For many educators, this represents a shift in the way they have historically taught students to evaluate information. Read more about this shift here:
- Don’t Go Down the Rabbit Hole
- Getting Beyond the CRAAP Test: A Conversation with Mike Caulfield
- To navigate the dangers of the web, you need critical thinking – but also critical ignoring
In order to give experienced SIFT-ers a chance to stretch their fact-checking muscles and novices a chance to learn, we plan to include a fact-checking activity in our Welcome Session at MisinfoDay 2022.
See a preview of the activity below. Come back later to check out the final version and consider using it at your own event.
