Long Live Dante

C LIT 361 A/ ITAL 262 A/ GLITS 311 Autumn 2023

This project is devoted to exploring one of Western literature’s masterpieces, Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy.” As readers, we not only observe the pilgrim’s odyssey through the afterlife, from the dark wood of error to the vision of truth, but actively engage with it. This journey prompts contemplation on the essence of evil, the potential for spiritual improvement, and the experience of true happiness. The primary objective of this project is to exhibit numerous surprising parallels with our present era and to highlight Dante’s influence on modern and contemporary culture. This compilation comprises students’ original interpretations of Dante’s work and its enduring impact across diverse fields, including art, literature, and cinema, spanning from Dante’s time to our contemporary era.
